Red is a b*tch to photograph
Sorry I've been missing in action for the last month. I have had things to blog about since my last post, but I've been too lazy to take pictures. You know how it is. The picking up of the camera, the taking off of the lens cap, the pressing of the shutter button, the hooking up of the camera to the computer. My god, the effort!
So, I'm almost done knitting up the cuff to my second Sockapalooza sock (look at prior post) so I figured it was all right for me to start another project. Another non-sock project, that is.
I was so smitten with Carrie's Green Gable after seeing it posted over on this little site called Ravelry (ever heard?) that I decided to bust out the Cascade Pima Tencel I had rotting away in the back of my closet and do something I haven't done in close to a year: cast on for something I can hang off a clothes hanger.
Now Cascade Pima Tencel is the nicest and softest cotton yarn I've ever worked it. It feels amazing and the tencel makes it drape and shine like silk. But there is just one teeny, weeny complaint, tho. .
It sheds like a mofo. I am completely covered in red fuzz. It's nothing your standard lint brush can't handle but still, it's quite irksome to deal with, meh.
But that's not gonna stop me from finishing. I'm actually enjoying the endless stockinette stitch that comes with knitting your usual garment for once. I've been feeling burnt out lately so it's nice to completely space out while I watch TV after I come home from work. Thinking is overrated, anyway. :P
BTW, I got my second package from the Yarntini sock club today! Huzzah! Take a gander, wontcha?

Yarntini variegated sock yarn in the exclusive colorway, "Mint Mojito"

Yarntini Mint Mojito lip gloss and a pattern for Pure Cricosaura socks
Oh, and I also received a *really* nice set of rosewood dpns (which I forgot to photograph). Trust me, they're real purty.

Red is a bugger to photograph isn't it? That yarn sounds devine - hope the shedding issue resolves after a good washing.
The yarntini is v. v. pretty. I'm actually glad you didn't photograph the dpns - gotta save something else pretty for next time :)

I got my Yarntini today too - and I am in love! The pattern rocks. I love how your shedding mofo of a sweater is coming out:) The red is gorgeous!

Thinking is waaayyy over-rated :)
The sweater looks great, glad you are back. Oh, and I received my 'tini package today too - very fun!

Ack, my Yarntini package got delivered to my old address! I'm going to the PO first thing in the morning to go fetch my Mojito yarn!!
Do you plan on using the pattern that came with the yarn?

Wow, that yarn looks delicious!

Your green gable is looking lovely. I made mine in cotton fleece, but never wear it because cotton fleece is very hot and heavy. I guess that's a worsted weight cotton for you... The cotton and tencel blend you're working with sounds much more comfortable, shedding aside ;)

am so jealous of that yarntini sock club membership! so pretty!

its lookin' pretty sharp! i knit the green gable in red as well...but used the cotton fleece (pics in flickr).
loved the pattern...but yes, a total bitch to photograph. yours is coming along nicely.

I've given up entirely on trying to accurately photograph red. It'll just always look pink, and that's the way it is.
That yarn is absolutely luscious! The pattern looks fab, too. Lucky knitter!

The yarn looks delish and I would love to get my hands on the pattern!!!!

you did a pretty great job capturing the red! that new yarntini is beautiful - the lip balm must smell amazing!

i used red pima tencel for my fad classic and, boy, does it ever shed! insanity. but that does look tres tres cute. and i think red will be a good color on you.

ooh, that shedding thing annoys me too. But that is going to look so awesome on you. Ravelry is the best for inspiration - I need to add some more projects to my queue!
And that yarntini...oh yummy.

I know lazy. I knew there was a Yarntini package waiting for me but I haven't gotten my lazy ass over to the post office to pick it up. I am def. going today.
Do you think the Cascade will shed less after a wash?

I LOVE that shade of red. I'm also knitting GG and so agree--it's nice to vary it up after doing socks for so long! =) Bummer about the shedding, though. That would drive me bonkers.

i wish i'd joined the yarntini sock club. your skein is delicious and i actually like the pattern for Pure Cricosaura socks. i'm getting the socks that rock sock club stuff, and while i like the skeins, the patterns are not appealing to me at all.

Oh, fun stuff! I love the *red* gables (too bad about the shedding) and the sock colorway is really beautiful, and unique. Love the matching lipgloss you could use while knitting with it! ;)

Such a gorgeous red! If you have to end up with lint in your lap, at least it's pretty lint. Zephyr patterns are such perfect, lovely zombie knitting. I take em to the movie theater. :) Oh, and I'm so jealous after seeing everyone's Mint Mojito goodies!

Try this for photographing the red, set your camera to Aperture and shoot in RAW and set your White Balance to whatever you are shooting with, natural light is best as you probably already know so set it to the little sun icon. And shoot away. The red should look more like it self. And if you have photoshop, you can transform the RAW file into a jpeg and also mess around with the white balance to fix any over saturation of color. :)
So, the rose wood DPNs were part of the Yarntini sock club package? I'm still waiting for mine to come... better get cracking on my Pure Breeze socks!

oooh, i like the GG! you should check out my posts when i made green gables. i have some mods in there on how to do short row shaping in the chest.

Wow that yarntini looks great and I love the pattern that goes with it. Wish I was a member :O(
I love the gables sweater too. I am really liking the red colors lately

Hey! I'm in NY so we should hang out one of these days. send me an e-mail if you're free. Just like everyone else said, maybe if you wash the sweater at the end it will help the shedding. Just make sure you wear red when you knit it! The color looks great and I bet it's even better in person. Here's a fun fact about Pure Cricosaura... those are MY feet in the picture (and my shoes).
Talk to you soon! See you soon!

Ohh, it might be tough to photograph, but I love that red! The yarntini colorway is fantastic, too!

Red is a *&%$!@*!!!!!! to photograph - I have completely given up! Don't you just love that Yarntini colorway? I received mine also and can't wait to knit it up! :)
