What's black and white and red all over?
I am totally in *love* with this yarn. I dunno how I'm going to give these socks away once I'm done. . . It's tough.
BTW, this is my first pair of toe-up socks and let me just say, Turkish cast-on = magic!

Beautiful! I wondered how that yarn would knit up. Much nicer than I expected. Tempting, even.

What would you EVER do without turkish cast on? C'MON! =) So what pattern is that there?
Posted by: Angela at June 7, 2007 05:35 PM
gorgeous! I love black and white and red!
It looks very much like some yarn pirate sock yarn I have... so far I've only knit the toe though -- and I swear, I almost thought you came to my house and put my already-knit toe on your foot! :)

What's black and white and red all over?!
Turkish cast-on RULES!
Posted by: Veronique at June 7, 2007 10:43 PM
I'm more of a figure 8 toe-up kinda girl, but then the turkish cast on never played nice with me :) Love the look of the socks though - despite the large number of bad "black/white and red all over" jokes going around my head now.

Posted by: handknit168 at June 8, 2007 04:05 AM
that color is really neat - looking at the skeins I never would have thought it would knit up like that!

LOVE the yarn colors. Gorgeous. I've not tried the Turkish cast on ~ Veronique got me hooked on figure 8.
Posted by: Katie at June 8, 2007 09:23 AM
I think I've been doing some very weird adaptation of the turkish cast on for a while now - perhaps I need to learn the proper way.
Posted by: MeBeth at June 8, 2007 09:58 AM
I love the way this is working up!! Haven't tried that cast on yet, it sounds mighty appealing :)
Posted by: Lolly at June 8, 2007 11:51 AM

I love your blog! Those socks, and the fact that we are both from Bergen County, which clearly makes for radness all around. Where do you shop for yarn in the area? Ever since that lovely store in Englewood closed, the one above the children's store, I have been either going south to Westfield, into NYC, or waiting until I'm up at school and can go to Webs in Northampton. Anyyyway! Great blog, really and truly.

Great socks. Where'd you get the yarn - I've been looking for some great black, white, & red sock yarn?

Hi Sandra,
It was really nice meeting you too, Sandra :) I'll try to make it out to NYC more (semi)-regularly. I'll email you next time I'm in the city. I really miss belonging to a nice knitting community.

Ooh ooh ooh! Me likes. And that Turkish cast on is fab, is it not?
Posted by: Jessica at June 23, 2007 11:06 AM
Once I learned the Turkish cast on from misocrafty.squarespace.com along with Meg Swanson's tutorial in Vogue Knitting, this is the only way I start toe-up socks now. You have done a great job and your socks are gorgeous.
