A bullet points post, if you will
So very many things to talk about, so very little time.
* So you guys like me! Really, really like me (my non-knitting content, black nail polish and all)! Huzzah! I feel validated. Honestly tho, I think I get too caught up in trying to put stuff on my blog that I think will most appeal to my readership, as opposed to putting stuff out there that I myself feel is interesting and worth sharing to others. And I shouldn't, that's so not cool. Here's the deal with the black nail polish: I really *heart* dark nail polish, any color, any shade. I was and still am all about the Chanel Vamp but find that it doesn't look good on me. It just doesn't complement my skin tone.
So enter Summer 2006.
All of a sudden I have both Vogue and Nylon telling me black nail polish is "in"! All the cool people are doing it! I can wear it around and no one will think I'm goth! They'll just think I'm being trendy!!
Agh, that's really annoying in itself, isn't it? However, I did some real, honest-to-God soul searching this weekend and I decided that, you know what?, that was fine. Have people think I'm trying to emulate Lindsay Lohan. Whatever. I really liked her in Mean Girls anyway. So there.
* Darlin', dont you go and cut your hair. Do you think it's gonna make him change? Well, no, Mr. Malkmus. But I got it cut, anyway.
* Cranked out a couple of more crocheted earrings
The purple and lavender earrings were gifted to Amanda. The green ones are essentially a granny squares without the ends weaved in.
* I possess the super human ability to break all sorts of needles and hooks effortlessly.
What gives? Twice in one week? Both times I was just knitting or crocheting respectively and then snap! For no reason. And this ain't the first time either. Sigh, this is very annoying and not very cost-effective.
And that's it for now. Btw, I just joined the Stranded: The Colorwork Challenge. I'm working on the Squirrel and Oak Mittens from Hello Yarn. I actually finished one mitten yesterday while watching The New York football Giants blow it yet again . Pics of the mittens to come later this week.
Until then, a lovely week to you all.
P.S. Are there any Americano* drinkers out there? If so, why do they always give you your drink in two cups? I thought it was just a Starbucks thing but I've also gone to independently-owned coffee houses only to find out that they do the same exact thing. It's the only thing I'll drink from fancy-smancy coffee houses and this strikes me as being such a waste. I don't get it. I guess I could just ask someone who works there, but I don't want them to think I'm dumb. :(
*Hey, I never knew that term was intended to be derogatory. Aww, now my feelings are hurt. *sniff, sniff*

oooh, i know why! it's because the cup gets so hot, since the water that goes in with the espresso is about 190 degrees (as opposed to the 160 degree latte).
i knew four years of working at starbucks would pay off eventually. YES.
(ps longtime reader, first time poster. :)

The one time I actually did a fair amount of crocheting, I managed to break my plastic hook as well. I decided that investing in a metal Skacel one would be the best long-term investment. :)
I work at an independent coffee shop, and we tend to combine the water and espresso for the people, but I always ask how much water they want. I always thought the 2 cups deal was because people like differing amounts of water in their americanos. I'd much rather just talk to someone and ask how they want their drink than waste even more cups!

I still love that hair cut! It looks so good on you!
Man that sucks about the hooks & needles. Maybe you posess superhuman powers that are just coming to light (or maybe I should stop reading blogs while watching heroes).....
Can't wait for pics of those mittens!

I LURVE the haircut on you dahhhhhlin' (and the black polish.
The earrings are pretty damn cute too.

I love that crocheted granny square one SO MUCH! And of course you've got great style, whether "in" right now, or not. I love the haircut, too. I think it's so funny that when people get haircuts nowadays, they always reference pavement. Even if they're not saying it, they're thinking it (or maybe that's just me. I need to get a haircut, too. I'm thinking this weekend!)

great haircut :)
and yes, americanos get VERY hot. they fill that puppy up with scalding hot H2O after they plop in the espresso shots. double cup + cup sleeve is a must. and make sure not to spill it on yourself or you'll end up with a scar like mine!
and black nail polish rocks. so do any other dark polishes. who cares if someone thinks you're a bit goth? nuthin' wrong with being a bit of a misfit.

nice hair cut! i like how it frames your face. i've broken plastic or wood crochet hooks before. now i go metal for that reason alone :)
Posted by: gleek at December 5, 2006 08:10 AM
two in one week! That is why I knit with metal on anything smaller than a 6! (we must not know our superhuman strength!) I love the new cut!
Posted by: Stacey at December 5, 2006 08:39 AM
love the cute, you are anything but "trendy" (in that sense of the word that is negative). You are totally trendy in that sense of the word that is positive :) Maybe you should sell you earring at Brooklyn General? Want me to talk to them about it?
Posted by: kaitlyn at December 5, 2006 08:44 AM
ooh i love the haircut and the new earrings. man, i wish i could pull those off. i love the glasses too.
maybe you need to go "metal" with the tools. i personally prefer to crochet with metal hooks.
Posted by: maryse at December 5, 2006 09:46 AM
Your hair looks great!
Try aluminum crochet hooks by Boye/Wright or Susan Bates. They are cheap ($3-$4 each) and I've never broken one in all my years of crocheting, even though I have a fairly tight grip. Plus, the plastic ones make a weird squeaking noise against the yarn. (No, I am NOT crazy!)
Posted by: pixienyc at December 5, 2006 10:20 AM
loove the new hair cut!
I'm a needle breaker too. I guess we just don't realize our own brute strength :)
Posted by: Kelly at December 5, 2006 10:56 AM
Since I always seem to read you via Bloglines, I just now noticed the scenery change. Me likey!
I am digging dark polish too, although my mom thinks its gross. Whatever, Mom! And your hair? Me likey as well!
Your earrings are great. You inspired me to try to crochet a few weeks ago, but I just couldn't get it. Maybe I'll give it a go after the holidays.

yay for the pavement reference! and the earrings are gorgeous.
Posted by: Ashley at December 5, 2006 11:29 AM
YOUR HAIR IS FABULOUS. Don't ever change it. Suits you perfectly.
Posted by: amanda at December 5, 2006 12:00 PM
Love the new do.. This Asian girl is also about to lop off her hair too, but not til New Years. Sucks about the snapping instruments. And the earrings, LOVE THEM. =) Oh, yeah, and the glasses too.
Posted by: Angela at December 5, 2006 12:14 PM
Very strange and unfortunate about the fragility of your needles and hooks. Maybe there's some weird magnetic force surrounding you that draws the strength out of small, straight objects? Or superhuman strength, I liked that suggestion too.
BTW, you look mahvelous, dahling. The hair, the nails, the earrings--I love it all.
Posted by: Jessica at December 5, 2006 01:53 PM
I love the haircut. It really suits you. I tend to break needles too (when I'm not LOSING them) so I have no advice to offer. I bend the metal ones. It's very sad.
The earrings are awesome.
Posted by: Katie at December 5, 2006 04:40 PM
Beth beat me to it, but yup, it's the heat. Tea comes double-cupped for that reason, too.
Also, your earrings are gorgeous and make me want to learn crochet.

The earrings look absolutely amazing and I think that I might try to churn out a couple for my sis...
Posted by: Morgan at December 5, 2006 07:42 PM
Black nail polish is it???? I was rockin' that yearrrrs ago when I was sad and depressed. Time to bring it back to the bronx :)
Posted by: Iraida at December 5, 2006 08:02 PM
I love the haircut!
So about the dark polish - screw US weekly, wear whatever you want. I've been on an alternating schedule of nail polish colors(not on purpose I swear, I only noticed after someone pointed it out.) I'll wear something really, really dark for a week or two, then something really pale for a week or two. Needless to say, I have an entire shoe box full of nail polish under my bed.
Posted by: Jessica at December 5, 2006 09:25 PM
I like the haircut! Whenever I get my haircut, I'm all excited and I even blowdry my hair the first couple weeks...afterwards...I just forget and wish I had my hair dresser blow it out everyday. Only a girl can dream.
The crochet earrings are a wonderful quick gift...wonderful job. I will have to dust of my crochet needles to give that a go.
Posted by: bee at December 6, 2006 01:27 AM
Now I want to steal your haircut; I've been putting chopping mine off for a long time, but it's been driving me nuts lately.
And I love the crocheted earrings! Funky without being too...funky, if you know what I mean.
Posted by: eunny at December 6, 2006 09:22 AM
That's such a great haircut!!! That's the haircut I would get if I had nice thick straight hair like yours...
Posted by: Natalie at December 6, 2006 12:33 PM
Damn, you're smokin'! Malkmus should [i]be[/] sp locky.
Posted by: Katy at December 6, 2006 09:47 PM
What the??? Cannot type on the husband's keyboard, it seems.
Posted by: Katy at December 6, 2006 09:48 PM
i thought i already commented on this. i swear to goodnesss. anyway, you are totally ahead of the curve, always will be. your haircut looks faboo.
Posted by: carrie m at December 6, 2006 10:50 PM
your blog won't let me post comments! arrarrrghghg.
Posted by: carrie m at December 6, 2006 10:51 PM
Your hair looks lovely. (Tee hee - "lovely" is such a mom word.) Perhaps your needle breaking is related to some unidentified deep seated inner stress. You should probably go get a massage right away.

GREAT EARRING~~~
Really sorry about your needles....
Visit my blog too!!

How lovely earrings!
Posted by: Elena at December 10, 2006 06:51 AM
I'm an Americano girl too, and I *ask* for that cup if they don't double cup it, because it's so hot! You hair looks fabulous, and so do your earrings.
Posted by: Carrie at December 10, 2006 11:17 AM
please, please, please tell me how to make crocheted earrings! i'm sensing a use for all the fiddly bits of leftover sock yarn!
love the hair, too!
