Where is my mind?

a to-be-frogged Birch
You = One way ticket to the Frog Pond.

To say that I'm in a knitting rut would be the understatement of the year. I am in a knitting canyon, a knitting gorge, a knitting bottomless pit, if you will. Can't seem to stay focused on one project for an extended period of time. Like the picture of Birch you see above. That is probably the seventh time I cast on for this project and for some reason, I cannot get more than two pattern repeats in without making a stupid, stupid mistake. God. I blame it mostly on the weather (It's too hot, yo) but it also has a lot to do with stress as well. Ah well, no bitching and moaning here today, folks (well, no more b+m-ing today, anyways). I come here today bearing good news.

I received my prize from winning Grumperina's Jaywalker contest this weekend: a set of US 1 Lantern Moon "Rosewood" double-pointed needles

Lantern Moon double pointed needles

They are so pretty and quite fancy. It's honestly one of the nicest things I own now. Thanks so much, Kathy! :)

So naturally I decided to christen these new needles by casting on for (what else?) a pair of Jaywalker. To do so otherwise would be sacrilege!

My creation

I'm using Brooklyn Handspun sock yarn in Carnival. I normally don't like pooling in my knitting but I don't mind it so much with this sock. In fact, I think I like it alot.

My hope is to churn these socks out by the end of the week. Boy, it's been a while since I knit these babies. I mean, I actually had to look up the pattern online again because I had forgotten how many stitches to cast on! Can you believe it?!

oh no!!!! birch to the frog pond, eh? :( that's too bad. i was hoping that you would finish it! but those are some pretty dpns you got there! what a nice giftie.

i LOVE how that yarn is pooling. that's the best pooling i've seen in a while.

Those are great! I love the rainbowish pooling! You'll have to give a review on what you think of the needles - they look beautiful! Lucky!

Wowee, those socks look amazing! Talk about the best kind of pooling! I wonder how it'll do after the heel... Sort of makes you consider doing an after-thought heel. But I don't think those ever fit quite right.

I'm *always* in a knitting rut. Welcome to my world of WIPs and UFOs and frog ponds, yay!!! :-P

At least you're making another pair of Jaywalkers. I cast on for Kate (Knitty pattern for a disproportioned cat doll) 3 weeks ago, and still all I have so far is the head, lol.

I have to work on my knitting speed.

I am slowly working my way out of a knitting rut too. Blah socks. Plodding along on an Orangina...stalled design project. My answer has been Sundara's sock yarn -- it does really provide all the sock love to get my knitting mojo back. I hope your Jaywalkers do the same.

That is some neat-o pooling action you have going on there -- I'll bet you couldn't make it do that if you tried! Very nice.

I love how that yarn is pooling! It's going to be a very cheery sock. Maybe that's all you need to get out of that rut!

I am loving the way that yarn is knitting up! And now I know what kind it is =D

Posted by: Tiffany at July 5, 2006 03:55 PM

wow! those rainbow socks are so fun! I love the way it's knitting up. :) and I totally feel you on the knitting rut - I keep starting things and don't even get close to finishing anything...

Oh no! I'm feeling sad for Birch... It was the first time I'd seen it in garter st too. :(
Your Jaywalkers are kicking rainbow butt!

Sorry to hear about Birch - but your new Jaywalkers are looking awesome. Have fun with those - and try not to worry about the knitting canyon.

Rainbow socks, so cute.

You know, I'm tired this morning. So, when I read your line about ticket to the Frogpond I thought a) Sandra's in NY--why's she going to the Frog Pond (a spot in Boston Common) and b) you don't need a ticket for it, you just pay the $.50. Clearly I am sleep deprived....

:( sorry to hear you've been to the frog pond and back. Hopefully things will look up from here. Take a break from Birch all together and work on those fab socks, then once you get into the rhythm try birch again. Lace is sooo tedious!
I looove the way your socks are turning out, they are going to be tres cute!

Posted by: Kelly at July 6, 2006 08:59 AM

Yay! I'm so happy the needles reached you safe and sound (so it appears). Enjoy knitting your new sock with them!

Posted by: grumperina at July 6, 2006 09:29 AM

Man everyone seems to be frogging birch - I'm almost scared to cast on for it! Man I love the way the yarn is pooling - now if only I can dye the yarn to make it pool like that all the time!

Another birch frogged?! It's a conspiracy!

Those needles look sweet, I hope you can come by to The Point and we'll get a better *look*-Lucky duck.

Yay for prizes! Those needles are so pretty!

...I'm beginning to think you may have a jaywalker addiction...admitting it is the first step.

Posted by: pam at July 9, 2006 03:36 PM

congrats on your prize :) your new jaywalker looks pretty awesome. i normally don't like pooling either...but it works here. :)

Oh my god. First I laughed my ass off about the frog pond, then I just dropped my teeth in the floor at those socks and needles. I wish every knitting project looked like that.

Posted by: john at July 10, 2006 10:46 PM

Ohhhhh Those are great! I like so much your rainbowish yarn!! i'm in loooove!!!!

Posted by: Verrito at July 13, 2006 01:50 AM
