Judas!
I never meant for it to happen. It all started so innocently. There was all this great big hoopla over Knitpicks' new line of circular needles. They were to be the needles that ended all needes. Sleek, pointy, light, flexible, pointy, cheap, and pointy. I was immediately sold. But why exactly did I feel compelled to order just the US 1 and US 2 32 inch circulars? Who am I kidding, anyway? What was I going to do, knit up a sweater with them because I'm clinically insane?
I'm so full of crap. I think a part of me knew I was going to stray from my beloved DPNs way beforehand. Oh, I shall miss the false sense of superiority deep-rooted connectedness I felt with tradition and knitters of past generations.
Let the I-told-you-sos begin.
Now, on to actual knitting content. I'm knitting up a pair of generic stockinette socks out of some Sweet Georgia Speed Demon sock yarn in "Fondant" I bought a few months back. I figured I didn't want some fussy pattern to take away from the very purty colors.
I think I like knitting up socks in sport weight yarn. It knits up mighty quick and I like the squishy-ness of the yarn. Squishy socks are a good thing. Should have a pair to show off tomorrow and then back to knitting up the Kimono Shawl.

I love those colors. They really do look like fondant to me. Congrats on your newfound sock technique. I'm a two circ kind of knitter.

Nice socks! I love colors! I want to try to knit socks...

Mmmm, those socks look like candy! Or cupcakes!
I'm definitely a circular sock convert; I like to use two short ones (12" or 16"). I still prefer using dpns on the toe, however, since I feel like I have more control and flexibility that way.
I'm curious what your opinion of the Knit Picks needles is, since I'm sure you're aware that there are some mixed reviews out there.

Those are great colors! I just finished a pair out of the STR mediumweight/sportweight - squishy! I love how fast they knit up!

I'm going to order #2s and if I like them I'll probably buy the whole options kit

i love the colors of that yarn. for some reason, i'm not sold on socks using circulars. i actually bought a 40in addi turbo (sz 1) and couldn't get the hang of it. oh well, i'll stick with the dpns.

I love socks on circulars, I'm so glad that you've come to our side!

Magic Loop is the way to go--esp. if you're the kind of knitter who tends to drop her dpn every time she finishes knitting off of one :) Those squishy socks look très fabulous. Welcome to the Dark Side.

Wow... those socks look sooooo good! So good, in fact, that it (almost) makes me want to knit my own pair of tootsie covers! :D
(Reesie taught me how to knit a pair of socks on one circ -and should probably show me again- and I still have yet to knit up anything. Sad.)

I need to join the Magic Loop bandwagon, too. Now that I have the amazing Knit Picks needles also, I really should! =) Only, I don't have any in sizes 1 or 2...hmmm...

Those KnitPicks needles are all mine...very soon.
However I remain loyal to my 5 stick socking!!!

see! magic loop all the way! i haven't picked up my dpns in ages, and that's a good thing because all i ever did was drop them. hate the clang of metal dpns on the ground.

this is beautiful yarn!! :) and it's good you have come to the dark side of the magic loop. :) now you need to do 2-at-once-magic loop. :) hehehe.
i love the knit picks needles :) i have to admit the purple cable sold me :)
Posted by: Jen da Purse-Ho at August 1, 2006 09:48 PM
I ordered two of the KnitPicks circulars in the size I use for sock knitting. Both of them have irregularities that will snag yarn in the purple cable. I could see it before I even took one of them out of the package. It's not like the one Yahaira had with cracks in it, mine have extra material jutting out from the cable. I still haven't decided whether to return them or exchange them and hope they send new ones with a clean cable.
