A new project and a mini-rummage sale

My crazy, splotchy rainbow Jaywalker socks are coming along just swimmingly. I finished the first sock and already cast on for the second one a couple of days ago. These are going to be a crazy pair of socks, let me tell you. Ooh, the suspense. . .

Anyhoo, I also cast on for a new lace project (screw you, Birch) a little over a week ago. It's the Kimono shawl from Folk Shawls. The lace pattern is deceptively easy and this is where I am after two full repeats.

I'm knitting it up in silk mohair hand-dyed Kasrui by Habu Textiles. I bought some from Yahaira at her spiffy new online store, pure knits.

I usually hate the delicate lace/varigated yarn combo but the colors on this yarn blend into each other ever-so-subtly. It's quite lovely. Take a look for yourself.

Not bad, huh?

On a totally different note, I have some stuff I want to get rid of. If you are interested in looking through some cute vintage and vintage-y clothes and some sock yarn, click below. If you couldn't care less, you best be on your way. Either way, enjoy the rest of your weekend!

If you're interested in any of these items, please leave a comment. I accept payment via Paypal. You can send your payment to my email address: sandra.knits@gmail.com. Thanks for looking!

Oh, do let me know if putting up your vintage stuff works on here! It's still in the boxes and bags, still awaiting some kind of decision from me!

And I love the kimono shawl and I love how yours is coming out.

Oooh, I loves me a lacy shawl.

Posted by: colleen at July 16, 2006 10:13 AM

ooo that shawl is going to be so gorgeous...

Posted by: pam at July 16, 2006 01:41 PM

I so admire your lace knitting skills. I've just started my first official lace shawl and I love lace. It goes so fast. The verigated colors of that yarn you are using is really subtle doesn't pull the attention away from the lace work. You always sell such cute clothes! Makes me wonder what cute clothes are replacing what you are selling? :)

Posted by: Aimee at July 16, 2006 07:45 PM

Wow! That is such a gorgeous shawl.

Posted by: Kate at July 16, 2006 07:59 PM

Just had to say that I love that lace pattern, and yarn. It's going to be a beautiful shawl.

Damn, I'm too late for the sale! Not having internet at home sucks...
You have to answer this question: why are you clicking with the Kimono shawl pattern and not Birch? Honestly, the Kimono shawl seems way more complicated... Maybe you needed a challenge?

Posted by: Veronique at July 17, 2006 09:49 AM

That shawl is so pretty and the color is great - I love how subtle it is.

Posted by: Marie at July 17, 2006 10:38 AM

the shawl looks wonderfu. that'll really show birch!

Posted by: carrie m at July 17, 2006 11:51 AM

Why you gotta hate on birch?

Posted by: Virginia at July 17, 2006 01:36 PM

Gorgeous Kimono Shawl.
Bummed I missed the Black Purl.

ryc: haha, i picked it up in the philippines where everyone calls it aircon and they even have signs that say aircon on it. i have trouble talking to people about it though because i tend to say aircon now and westerners just don't understand. i think it's much more self-explanatory than "aye see." imagine how confusing that is for someone who doesn't speak english. i wonder what they call it in england!

Posted by: reesie at July 17, 2006 03:36 PM

ok i just did a search on "england aircon" and there are many sites that use aircon instead of A/C. that's probably why it's so widely used in asia.

Posted by: reesie at July 17, 2006 03:37 PM

Oooooooh... I wish I needed some yarn right now, but I really don't... dammit. That's some nice stuff you got up for sale though! :)

And that shawl.... Niiiiiiiice. I really love those colors. When I grow up, I wanna be just like you!!! Hahaha.

Hi Sandra! Thanks for your comment today. I hope things are going well for you. I got the shoes in a store in Arizona, but the brand is "Born" and you can find them all over. Zappos.com has a lot of styles. These shoes are from a while ago so I don't know if you'll be able to find the same ones, but they are an awesome company with super comfy shoes! Do you still knit at the Point? Maybe we can get together for knitting and Mets Fan chatting sometime!

Posted by: Illanna at July 19, 2006 01:46 AM

Gorgeous shawl! Would you say the book is worth it? I'm totally hooked on knitting lace now, and I've been thinking I should knit myself a super special shawl for my wedding next year. I'd love to hear your review.

Oh, and when are you gonna show us those cool-pooling Jaywalkers?
