Jets To Atlanta

I'm off to Hotlanta this week. The weather around the great NYC area has been real depressing the last couple of days so I can't wait to leave even if it's for a little while. While I'm down there I am determined to come back with at least one finished object. You see, in my last post I mentioned that one of my greatest accomplishments of 2005 was that I actually knit a pair of socks. Two. Matching. Socks, right? Right.

So I finished the first Peppermint Jaywalker a little more than a week ago and I was all set to cast on for my second one when Veronique just had to come sauntering into the Point for our weekly Spiders meetup and show off her rainbow sock that she knit up in this awesome Regia Self-Striping Sock Yarn. How can any knitter in their right mind resist the stuff? So I proceeded to buy two balls of the same exact yarn that same night and immediately casted on for what I would like to call the Rainbow Brite Jaywalkers.

But wait, there is more. I bought the latest issue of Interweave Knits Magazine a couple of weeks ago and during that time I casted on for the "Embossed Leaves Socks" as well.

Honestly, after taking a look at the pic, how can you NOT cast on for these socks, huh?

So now I have THREE socks going on at once which is all fine and dandy. But something happened to me tonight. All of a sudden, I felt the need to dig up some of that Brooks Farm yarn I bought at Rheinbeck. I started flipping through some pattern books and sorting through my needles, seeing if I had the US 7 32" circulars needed to cast on for the "Hourglass Sweater." When suddenly it hit me: I was starting to come down with OSS (One-Sock-Syndrome) again! Nooooooo!

I need your help. You have to make me finish a pair, any pair. Just tell me what to do. Tell me. . .

EDIT: I replaced the pictures that were originally posted with ones that seem to be slightly better.

[BTW, sorry about the horrible quality of these photos. My camera has been having some issues lately.]

WHICH PAIR OF SOCKS SHOULD I COMPLETE FIRST?

EDIT 2: The poll I had up was screwing up the template for this site for some odd reason, so I had to take it down. :( Last time I checked, The Rainbow Brite Jaywalkers were winning with the Embossed Leaves SOcks trailing behind by only two votes. And the Peppermint Jaywalkers were behind by more than twenty votes. Still feel free to comment. Sorry about all this.

Thanks in advance for your input. I'll probably smell you guys in a week.

Guess what I voted for...
Have fun in Atlanta!

I love the rainbow ones but the embossed leaves are amazing too! Hmmmmm!

I can't wait to meet up this week! The weather here isn't great but I'm sure it's a little warmer than NYC.

Rainbow Brite! With Peppermint second. I have that same Regia yarn - a friend had some, and I had the exact same reaction upon seeing it: "Must Own That Yarn."

And y'know, after reading the pattern notes at Fig & Plum, I think I'd look around for another sweater of similar style. That sounds like one damned annoying sweater to knit, truth be told...

Posted by: Chris at January 3, 2006 09:53 PM

RAINBOW BRITE! Excellent! And then I'd go for the Embossed Leaves. Yes. I know. I'm telling you to knit a NON-jaywalker sock.

Posted by: Cara at January 3, 2006 10:31 PM

Embossed leaves! Maybe you need a break from the Jaywalkers. Hold off on the sweater till you finish one pair of socks. The hourglass is nice, I think the problem everyone had was with the yarn and the weird gauge. Have fun in Hotlanta!

OMG those rainbow brite socks rock! I am going to totally be a biter and pick up that sock yarn.

Posted by: ros at January 3, 2006 10:32 PM

Rainbow Brite! If you don't knit them, I will. As a matter of fact, there is no way I'll make it through the week without buying up that Regia yarn for my own - don't want to be a copycat, maybe mine can be Twink socks!

Posted by: MeBeth at January 3, 2006 11:07 PM

Soon... soon... you will become a sock knitter. THREE SOCKS at once. You crazy lady!

I think I'd rather ride some Jets to Brazil.....

Embossed leaves, dude - we've all seen finished Jaywalkers, but I'm dying to get a look at that adorable leaf toe! Have a good, safe trip!

Posted by: Sarah at January 4, 2006 10:49 AM

OMG I am in love with the rainbow bright jays! Maybe because I too bought the same yarn the same night - although I've done nothing with it yet...I'm not even finished with my first pair of Jaywalkers.. what a slacker I am...

Chick? You've been busy. You and I are on the same sock wavelength. Jaywalkers and Embossed Leaves. Except, I keep hating the way both are turning out. I think it's the yarn. Must.Buy.New.Sock.Yarn.

I voted on the poll thing for lace, of course. But you're going so fast - why only one sock? I know: You're trying to be a trendsetter about the mismatching handmade socks.

Posted by: Keridiana at January 4, 2006 01:35 PM

What is this, sock mania? You'd better start up that "2 socks at once" thing or you're going to have a zoo full of lonely single socks! OR ~ here's an idea ~ maybe you can get someone else with single sock syndrome (like me) to knit one of everything too and divvy up the results!

Posted by: Katie at January 4, 2006 02:48 PM

I'm so going to be a biter. I'm snatching up some of that yarn too! You should do what Cara does and start one sock, start a second sock, then finish the mate for the first sock. Then start a third sock, then finish the mate for the second sock and then start a fourth.. etc etc.

Rainbow Brite!!!!!! Have fun in Georgia!

Posted by: Katy at January 4, 2006 04:43 PM

I love the embossed leaves because they have such texture, so I voted you finish those, however, the rainbow brites are fun!

Posted by: sedie at January 4, 2006 05:20 PM

the rainbow brites are changing. my. life. simply adorable. they might very well push me to become a sock knitter.

Posted by: carrie m at January 4, 2006 06:06 PM

I accidently voted for pepermint - but meant to do rainbow brite. You HAVE to finish, you don't want me to finish MY Jaywalkers before YOU when YOURS inspired ME! That's just WRONG! =) LOL

Posted by: april at January 4, 2006 11:55 PM

I voted for the peppermint ones if only because they were the first Jaywalkers you started and you might finish them quicker knowing that you have other ones you like more to finish afterwards... Or maybe not ;) but that's my theory!

Posted by: Bryony at January 5, 2006 03:54 AM

i'm torn between rainbow brite (the irresistable attraction of 1983!) and embossed leaves, since i haven't seen any finished versions of this in blogland. i'll vote for... embossed leaves I think.

Posted by: jess at January 5, 2006 12:55 PM

I think you should start on the 2nd Rainbow Brite while you only have TWO socks going at a time. You can make a little progress on it while you decide which of the other two to try to finish the 2nd sock first. Then you won't have to deal with O-S-S for Rainbow Brite anyhow, because you'll have some of it done!

Posted by: Cindy at January 5, 2006 01:12 PM

Definitely the embossed leaves. they are beautiful.

Posted by: Kelly at January 5, 2006 02:05 PM

Oh! Oh! You jumped on the embossed leaves bandwagon too? Yipee! Just finished the ribbing on sock #2 - can't wait to see yours finished up!

Posted by: Sarah at January 5, 2006 02:19 PM

I love the embossed leaves - I'd go for those. You are the sock knitting goddess!

Posted by: Elizabeth at January 5, 2006 06:53 PM

I definitely vote for the Rainbow Brite! I have already made a pair in a regular stockinette pattern, but oh, now I need a pair in the Jaywalker pattern! Thanks for the inspiration!

I can't wait to CO for the embossed leaves socks!!!

I'm also trying to figure out what my brooks farm yarn wants to be. I only got one hank, which makes it a bit difficult, all the patterns I look at are for 600 yards or way under the 500 yards that I have.

Posted by: Jenn at January 6, 2006 12:45 PM

The rainbow Jaywalkers are TO DIE FOR. Goodness gracious!!!

Posted by: grumperina at January 6, 2006 02:31 PM

Now that is one kick @ss Jaywalker sock!!

I too saw Breakfast at Tiffany's. 25 times!
I was sympathetic to the strike, as I wish you were feeling. How can it be illegal to strike when its only the corporation (city and transportation authority) that says its illegal. think about it and how so many people are losing their pensions after years and years and the courts are backing up the companies. Come on, you know its wrong and here's a group of folks putting themselves on the line for themselves and the rest of us.
Later.........

peppermint jaywalkers.. must be the best damn socks i've ever seen! whoooo!

Posted by: renee at January 8, 2006 02:22 PM

Don't come down with one sock syndrom! I vote for the embossed leaves because that will motivate me to start them! They are so lovely! Go, go, go! Don't leave that lonely sock hanging!
